SEISMOLOGY, TECTONICS and CRUSTAL DYNAMICS

Seismology, Tectonics and Crustal Dynamics deals with the physical principles which define the movement, deformation and evolution of the Earth's crust. This topic studies physical processes and principles of seismicity, interaction between tectonic plates, and crust evolution. Subjects of study within this branch include seismogenesis and seismic wave propagation, tectonic faults, plate boundaries' processes, crust stresses and deformations, geophysical observations, continental and oceanic tectonics, and lithosphere evolution. Moreover, it studies the effect of tectonic forces on landscape development and geological risks. The combination of geological and geophysical aspects of the subject makes it possible to improve knowledge of internal processes of our planet, as well as reduce geological risks and advance the science of geosciences.
