• Prof. Mokhles K. Azer was born in Assiut in 1972. He obtained a Bachelor of Science (Geology) in 1994 from Assiut University, with a grade of very good. He was appointed as a research assistant at the NRC after obtaining a master's degree from the Cairo University in 2000. He obtained a Ph.D. from Cairo University in 2004, and was appointed as a researcher in the NRC. He held the position of Assistant Research Professor from 30/6/2009 to 8/9/2014, then a Research Professor from 9/9/2014 to date. He headed the Department of Geological Sciences from 8/2/2018 to 7/2/2024.

• Dr. Azer awarded many prizes due to his outstanding contributions (Scientific Appreciation Award of National Research Centre, State Incentive Award in Basic Science, Scientific Excellence prize in the basic sciences of the NRC, Encouragement award in the Geological Sciences from NRC,  Pioneer Prize of the NRC,  Misr El-Kheir Foundation Award for the best scientific publications, ….. etc.).
• Participated in 37 projects as a principal investigator, as co-principal investigator and as a member (12 international projects, 5 projects funded by the STDF, 2 projects funded by the Academy of Scientific Research and Technology, 15 projects funded by the National Research Center and 5 projects funded by Egyptian universities.
• Published one book, 6 chapters in internationally published books, 145 international research papers (Scopus), and 17 papers published in local journals, in addition to publishing 53 research abstracts in international conferences.

• Supervised 33 scientific theses (14 Masters + 19 PhDs)
