Dr. S. Balaselvakumar is an academician and researcher in Geography, currently serving as an Associate Professor in the Department of Geography at Government Arts College, Tiruchirappalli, Tamil Nadu, India. He holds a Ph.D. in Geography and has extensive academic and research experience in water resources management, crime geography, Geographic Information Systems (GIS), remote sensing, and geoinformatics. In recognition of his contributions to water resources research, he was awarded a Fellowship by the Indian Water Resources Society. Throughout his academic career, he has authored and co-authored numerous research articles, scholarly books, and book chapters, including The Geography of Crime: Exploring Spatial Distribution and Environmental Criminology, Climate Science for Changing Planet: Local Solutions to Global Crises, Groundwater Evaluation for Agriculture: A Case Study of a Semi-Arid River Basin of South India, and Integrated Fundamentals of Soil Science: Processes, Properties and Sustainable Management. His research interests also encompass climate change, environmental sustainability, agricultural geography, groundwater assessment, and the application of geospatial technologies to environmental and social issues. Beyond research, Dr. Balaselvakumar actively participates in faculty development programmes, academic training initiatives, and curriculum development. He also serves as a reviewer for academic journals, contributes to professional scientific organizations, and supervises research scholars, supporting the advancement of geographical research and the development of future researchers.
