It entails studying the mode of spread, detection, treatment, and containment of communicable diseases like viruses, bacteria, fungi, and other types of infections. The study includes conducting research into aspects like disease surveillance, emergency responses to outbreaks, vaccinations, antimicrobial resistance, among others. It further entails investigating how preparedness in public health and healthcare facilities can help cope with a disease outbreak. The field is aimed at improving global readiness against communicable diseases by using science and collaboration.
