The capability of machines to derive knowledge from data and respond to varying conditions has been one of the hallmark aspects of technological evolution in recent times. The application of artificial intelligence and machine learning offers effective techniques for computation that can be used to solve complex problems that may be beyond the capabilities of traditional programming practices. Such advanced techniques enable the design of intelligent systems which are able to learn, think, predict, optimize, and make decisions on their own. As more data becomes available and more complex, there is an urgent need for more sophisticated models of learning, more efficient methods of computation, and new intelligent solutions to the problems facing humanity.
