Biography
Dr. Siddharth R. Dawane is an accomplished historian and academician specializing in Ancient Indian History, History of Medicine, History of science and technology and Indian Knowledge Traditions, with a particular focus on Ayurveda, public health, and medical practices in ancient India. He currently serves as Assistant Professor in History at Amity University, Gwalior, and is actively engaged in teaching, research, academic administration, and curriculum development. Dr. Siddharth earned his Ph.D. in History and qualified the UGC-NET in History. He completed his M.A. (History) and B.A. (History) with First Class from the University of Mumbai, with over a decade of teaching experience, he has taught undergraduate and postgraduate students across institutions such as Amity University, Lovely Professional University and Kamaladevi College contributing significantly to classroom instruction and distance education programs.
His academic career is marked by substantial administrative leadership, including his tenure as Vice Principal and Head of the Department of History at Kamaladevi College of Arts and Commerce. He has also played a vital role in quality assurance processes as NAAC Coordinator and currently serves as IQAC Co-Coordinator at Amity Institute of Social Science. His engagement with academic governance extends to syllabus revision committees, examination reforms, and paper setting at the University of Mumbai.
Dr. Siddharth is a recipient of several prestigious research fellowships and grants, including a Junior Research Fellowship (JRF, 2019) and Minor Research Project funding from the Indian Council of Historical Research (ICHR,2023), New Delhi and the University of Mumbai. (2017) as well as publication grants from ICHR. (2023) His research output includes UGC-CARE listed journal articles, peer-reviewed international publications, edited book chapters, and authored textbooks. His notable monograph, Sushruta’s Role in Shaping the Ancient Medical Landscape: A Historical Canvas (2024), published with ICHR financial support, stands as a significant contribution to the historiography of ancient Indian medicine.
Beyond publications, Dr. Siddharth has actively contributed as a Resource Person, Keynote Speaker, Editorial Board Member, Reviewer, and Advisory Committee Member for reputed journals and academic conferences. He has delivered guest lectures and training sessions at universities, colleges on topics ranging from Ancient Indian Medicine to experimental learning in history. His scholarship has been recognized internationally through invited lectures at Network of Hinduism in Dialogue, University of Oxford UK and the Science History Institute, Philadelphia. (USA) He is a recognized Ph.D. guide and postgraduate teacher, has developed Self-Learning Material (SLM) for undergraduate and postgraduate programs, and continues to mentor students and young researchers. Through his interdisciplinary scholarship and institutional service, Dr. Siddharth contributes meaningfully to the advancement of historical research, Indian medical historiography, and higher education in India.
